Dream it then do it.

D

Us humans are funny creatures, most of us think we are living independent lives, doing our thing, working hard yet enjoying our lives to the best we can. Collectively we are in fact moving towards a cliff together, old age. So, we work our hardest to buy a house, raise a family and put our nose to the grindstone for 30, 40, 50 years with the intent of one day putting our feet up and ‘retiring’. Wow, that’s really something to look forward to, at the time of your life when your health starts to decline and your inner risk taking just isn’t in your makeup anymore. So, you spoil yourself (if you can afford to) on ocean cruises, European bus trips, buy a caravan to travel the country just go with a dream you’ve always held. Mo matter how small.

Recently I watched an 85-year-old couple at a car dealership on picking up their brand new SUV reverse backwards through the showrooms plate glass windows and take out a sales guy’s desk and luckily not him.  I hate to think what will happen when they start towing their matching super-sized caravan…now good on them at their age for keeping a spirit of adventure, maybe they are vagabonds who have always lived on the edge OR like most folks they have been waiting their whole lives to experience FREEDOM.

It’s all about Risk vs Reward.

If your reward is your current life and all its benefits then there’s not much of a reason to change, if so, my blog is pretty well irrelevant for you. It may on the other hand be of great benefit to someone else, whether the kids, family and friends or work colleagues either now or down the track…

In my 20’s I had started a car detailing business which I worked on night and day 7 days a week for 8 years all I had to show for it was a broken marriage, debt, a run-down house to renovate and finally exhaustion. Worst still, I had passed up so many things I had really wanted to do. I was stuck working IN my business as a permanent employee and not ON it as an entrepreneur, run by a hard boss, myself. I had risked all to start my business but along the way lost sight of the goal post.

Where was My reward?

What I had failed to do was keep my goals in plain sight had shoved them to the back of the closet. I’ve taken the long road to find my own sense of well being doing the things I now enjoy. Exploring local markets, living in a new country, restoring my stone cottage, and writing.

Dream it. Do it.

If you’re in a position of being able to start your dream life then don’t delay, plan then execute, move your dream one step closer. If your dream is still away off due to family and financial commitments, then start planning now and build momentum. By doing this you won’t lose sight of your goals.

What’s over the horizon today will soon come into sight if you keep moving towards it. Remember one thing; Standing still gets you nowhere.
