Shopska Salad

S

The colours of the Bulgarian flag the mainstay of every dining table, Shopska Salad is a Bulgarian tradition to enjoy with a glass of Rakia and a must, no matter the season. This simple salad is hard to resist but to be a success it needs some very key ingredients (some vary from country and area to area)

Bulgarian Shopska Salad
  • Bulgarian Fetta/Sirene Cheese, generously grated over the top of the salad (nothing else will substitute!)
  • The freshest, full of flavour tomatoes, chopped. Bland supermarket bland copies won’t do!
  • Bulgarian peppers – chopped/sliced green or red
  • Cucumber – chopped
  • Onion- diced (optional)
  • Marinated black olives (optional)
  • Drizzle with olive or sunflower oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
